Lawn Core Aeration make a difference
It doesn’t matter if your lawn in Wintergreen, Tiftuf, Zoysia, Sir Walter or Saphire Buffalo, or for that matter any of the 100’s of variants between. One thing most lawns hate its compacted soil conditions. Weeds love them though and its a sure tell that compaction is at play when your lawn is struggling but your weeds are thriving.
When compaction gets really bad especially in dry times or in heavy clay lawns it can be like trying to penetrate cement. In these conditions it can be beneficial to apply wetting and or penetrating agents to the lawns and then irrigating (hosing) prior to core aeration.
We have an advantage in these scenarios in the fact that in addition to our Billy Goat Plugr Lawn coring machines we also run full commercial Toro Stand on Aerators that penetrate up to 130mm in ideal conditions and through the hydraulically operated tine-set apply over 1000lbs of force to the tines vs the 200lb of the little units. This means deeper cores, and more of them also. These units also tend to widen the top of the holes as they pass by giving water even more opportunity to absorb into the profile.
We’ve even ran through sports fields with these machines so you know they excel in large area coring.

You could hire one of the smaller machines, its unlikely you would find a bigger machine to hire, but even in the smaller machine you would be having to go and collect the machine, bring it back home, unload it, do the job and wrestle the thing around, accept liability for any damages, hope you got a good machine with good tines and that performs as it should, clean it up, load it back up and return the thing and hope you get your deposit back.
For what you pay for this hire we may well be able to either save you money on your service with out you having to blow your back out doing it your self and or provide you with vastly superior results as well.
